March News: “It’s the Wind Blowing Free …”

March News: “It’s the Wind Blowing Free …”
And the river bank talks of the waters of March. It's the end of the strain, it's the joy in your heart …” (Antonio Jobim)

February opened with a pre-Mardis Gras celebration at First Street Café Open Mic on Saturday, Feb. 2, almost five fun hours of a packed house and great performances! We ended the night with a combined R & B band consisting of Mark Comstock (lead vocals), his bassist Stacy Starkweather, Kevin Radley (guitar/vocals), and Chappell and I. We did a New Orleans set, complete with Mardi Gras bling and a “Saints Go Marching in” sing along to close.

Teresa Tudury gave a great concert on February 16th at Stevie Coyle's Mighty Fine Guitars in Lafayette. She is a person of many talents, with a background in comedy, musical theater, and several years experience with Beach Blanket Babylon. She also DJ’s a wonderful music show on KOWS radio, Occidental, CA (KOWS 107.3 FM Community Radio Occidental, CA).

Chappell sat in and sang backups on several of Teresa’s songs at Stevie’s concert room. We met Doug Adamz, who came down from Marin County and played blues harmonica on some tunes. Stevie’s room is a charming intimate spot to hear music. Drop by and visit the store and you can sneak a peek into the concert room in the back to see what you’ve missed.

CD recording sessions are going very well. We’ve had excellent performances from Mayne Smith on pedal steel/resonator guitar, CarlosReyes--violin

This is evolving into a CD of community music featuring the stellar musicians and singers living here in our beloved and blessed Bay Area.

Dave had a successful reading at Sacred Grounds in San Francisco on February 20. This Café draws a great group of poets and musicians, a family of creative people sharing their work with each other. They are rightfully proud of their reputation: the longest running poetry reading in the city. Host Daniel Brady posts reviews in Facebook on Sacred's Open Mic News, “Dave Holt gave us a great feature, bringing in history, magic and life. [He has] a powerful voice and good perspective.”

Dave will be reading on Wed. March 6, at Books, Inc., in Alameda 7 pm with Mary Loughran and Jan Dederick.

Don’t miss our Mom Hen’s Corner internet radio show broadcasting on line every Wednesday night, 6 to 9 pm (PST), at Indie Showcase on www.awesomeradio.net. DJ Jeanette Lundgren spins the favorite songs of her friends as well as her “Mom Hen Chicks.”

Look for us in March at Armando's in Martinez, California, on Friday, March 22nd, 4:30 till 6pm, Chappell & Dave Holt for Happy Hour and a Half.

On Sunday, March 24th, 1pm, Chappell Holt & Dave Holt will be at Sculpterra Winery in Paso Robles, California as part of Steve Key's Songwriters at Play. We play from 2:20-3:05pm. Then, Mon., March 25th, we will be in Paso Robles at Upper Crust Trattoria in San Luis Obispo, California also as part of Steve Key's Songwriters at Play.
